Science Day 🧪🥽

20th Nov 2025

Loughries pupils had an amazing time today exploring Scientific Winter Wonders with their very own mad scientist – Professor Bowers! The day was filled with laughter, excitement, and lots of hands-on learning.

We started with P1–P3, who predicted which items would float or sink before taking on the challenge of rescuing dinosaurs trapped in ice using only hot water and salt. Great teamwork meant every dinosaur was saved – phew!

Next up were P4–P6, who faced the egg drop challenge! Using different materials, they worked together to protect their eggs from a one-metre fall. It was a smashing success (without the smashing!) – not a single egg broke on Mrs Lisney’s floor.

Finally, P7 discovered the science behind making ice cream with milk, ice, and salt. Yes, salt! We learned that adding salt lowers the temperature of ice, and with a little shaking, we created ice cream. Although, we all agreed shop ice cream tastes better!

Wow – what a fantastic day! Well done, Loughries – you were all amazing scientists!
