Shared Education Trip 2.

As part of our second Shared Education trip with Bangor Central, we visited the Somme Centre yesterday. During our visit, we learnt about Ireland’s role in the First World War, especially the contributions of the 10th and 16th (Irish) Divisions and the 36th (Ulster) Division. We explored reconstructed First World War trenches, which helped us understand what life was like for soldiers during the Battle of the Somme, and we heard about key historical events such as the Home Rule Crisis, enlistment and training, and life on the front line. The Centre provides interactive, guided educational tours, allowing pupils to see real artefacts and engage with stories from the war, making it a powerful and memorable learning experience.
