StriveNI Workshop for P7!
Yesterday Elaine from StriveNI visited our school to speak with the P7 children about the important transition to “big school.” It was an engaging and informative session that helped ease any worries and build excitement for the next stage of their education.
During the workshop, Elaine led a range of interactive activities designed to support the children both practically and emotionally. The session began with a discussion about what to expect in post-primary school, including navigating a larger building, managing a timetable, meeting new teachers, and making new friends. The children were encouraged to share their thoughts and questions, which helped to normalise any feelings of nervousness.
One of the key activities focused on organisation and independence. Pupils took part in a “school bag challenge,” where they considered what they might need for a typical school day and how to keep their belongings organised. This led into a useful conversation about being responsible for homework, remembering equipment, and managing time effectively.
Elaine also introduced a “worries and solutions” activity, where the children worked in small groups to discuss common concerns about moving on, such as getting lost, making friends, or keeping up with work. Together, they brainstormed practical strategies and positive ways to cope, helping to build confidence and resilience.
