The P7 children were asked to build a wind turbine using the following materials: 15 art straws, masking tape, cardboard, propeller, Blu Tack and a paper clip. They had to work with a partner and spend 10 minutes planning their design. They could only start when they had produced a labelled sketch. They had strict rules to follow: the propeller must be attached at least 30cm above the base and the turbine must be able to withstand moderate winds. A hairdryer was held 50cm from the propeller nose to test how the turbine worked. All of the models passed the test!
