UFU schools competition - Congratulations to Rose Curran

The Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) in partnership with Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend and competition sponsor Asda, are delighted to announce that Rose Curran from Loughries Integrated Primary School, was awarded runner up in the key stage 1 category of the 2022 “Dig in! to food, farming and the environment” schools’ competition.

UFU deputy president, William Irvine said, “Congratulations to Rose who was awarded runner up in the key stage 1 category in this year’s competition. We received over 4,000 fantastic competition entries this year. Rose’s ‘the future of farming’ poster was fantastic and very innovative. Every year we are impressed by the standard and creativity of entries and this year was no different. The effort and time that pupils, teachers, parents and guardians put into the competition was evident as all of the entries were of the highest standard and I would like to thank Loughries Integrated Primary School for contributing to this.

“I hope that by participating in the competition this year, it created an opportunity for teachers to start the discussion in the classroom about the importance of food and farming in NI, allowing pupils to learn more about how farmers work hard to produce the delicious, high-quality produce on our tables which we consume daily, and their contribution to shaping our landscape.

“This year Open Farm Weekend is delighted to be back on the ground from Friday 17 June (Schools Day), Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 June, highlighting daily life on working farms, illustrating the farm to fork story and helping to cultivate an understanding of quality farming practices.”
